Personnel for synchrotron and neutron research

At the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI a meeting on improving the training of highly qualified personnel was held.

The discussion was attended by representatives of MEPhI, NRC "Kurchatov Institute", St. Petersburg State University, Novosibirsk State University, Novosibirsk State Technical University, Far Eastern Federal University and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

Currently, the draft Program for the Development of Synchrotron and Neutron Research for 2019-2027 mentions the training and retraining of engineering and technical personnel and specialists in the development, design and construction of synchrotron and neutron radiation sources; scientific personnel for conducting synchrotron and neutron R&D to obtain world-class scientific results; organization of scientific conferences and schools in the field of synchrotron and neutron research for students and researchers under the age of 39 years.

The meeting participants discussed the prospects for expanding the number of universities that teach courses on synchrotron and neutron research, joint online training programs, the possibility of developing online training programs for users of synchrotron and neutron radiation sources, and other issues. The issues of improving the admission quotas in the field of training specialists in the development, design and construction of synchrotron and neutron radiation sources were discussed. The proposals on training of scientific personnel for conducting synchrotron and neutron research, developing and using research infrastructure, including foreign sources of synchrotron and neutron radiation were announced.

The meeting participants agreed to continue working together and create a working group to improve the training of specialists in the field of development, design and construction of synchrotron and neutron radiation sources, as well as scientific personnel for conducting synchrotron research to obtain world-class results under the leadership of MEPhI, NRC "Kurchatov Institute" and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. The working group will include representatives of universities and research centers.
