Megascience infrastracture, which creates industry of the future

Today, the competitiveness of Russian science is the most important factor in ensuring the independence and global competitiveness of a country. The basis of the scientific potential, which is necessary to respond to the great challenges defined by the strategy of the scientific and technological development of the Russian Federation, is unique research and technological facilities and "megascience" class complexes. These research facilities will provide a transition to a fundamentally new nature-like national economy.

Nowadays a program for the development of synchrotron and neutron research for 2019–2027 is being formed. Its purpose is to provide a scientific and technological breakthrough. The created unique research infrastructure is designed to become a center of concentration and building up the intellectual potential of the nation. It will help to create the conditions for the inflow of knowledge and technology from global markets.

On the basis of the created research and technological infrastructure, international scientific and educational megaclusters can be formed. They would become centers of attraction for talented young people from Russia and the countries of near and far abroad, Russian and foreign scientists and specialists.

What are the priority areas for synchrotron and neutron research to achieve breakthrough results? What industries are in dire need of advanced infrastructure development? What is the current status and prospects of international cooperation in the field of synchrotron and neutron research?
